Kutztown University:
Strategic Prevention Framework - State Incentive Grant/SPF-SIG
Beginning in FY2008/09, the Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Programs awarded the Council
on Chemical Abuse a four year SPF-SIG in collaboration with the Kutztown University
President’s Roundtable. The Kutztown SPFSIG Initiative seeks to address the high rate
of driving under the influence arrests of youth, ages 16-21 in the Kutztown Borough as well as to reduce the use of alcohol by freshmen and sophomores at Kutztown University.
The strategic plan for this grant incorporates both evidence-based and innovative prevention strategies targeted to college freshmen and sophomores, athletes, and off-campus college students.
Programs to be implemented include Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol*, an environmental strategy; Alcohol EDU, a web-based education program; BASICS, and AUDIT, two alcohol screening and brief intervention programs; Challenging College Alcohol Attitudes, a social norms program; and the Berks County Underage Drinking Program. The evaluation component of the grant will measure changes in young adult behaviors and attitudes with respect to underage drinking.
