What is Planning, Coordination & Evaluation?

Planning, Coordination & Evaluation helps to describe the many roles that the Council has in Berks County in regards to drug and alcohol prevention, intervention, and treatment services.

Planning

The Council on Chemical Abuse is responsible for the planning, administration and management of publicly funded alcohol, tobacco, and drug services in Berks County. As part of its planning process, the Council engages in a county wide needs assessment process and analyzes service utilization data to determine necessary services, unmet needs and strategies that would best provide prevention and treatment services to the local citizenry. This planning is also completed with an understanding and balancing of local need with projected available current and future financial resources.

Coordination

The array of services addressing the prevention and treatment of addiction currently encompasses dozens of different types of services, provided through over 80 contracted agencies, serving thousands of Berks residents per year. Coordination of these services is paramount in order to assure that prevention and treatment needs are being addressed in an efficient and cost effective manner and to maximize the effect that each public dollar can have in helping Berks residents.
