Peer Mediation

Students in elementary, middle, and high school are offered a specific training program in which they learn skills necessary to conduct a mediation involving peers.

Rather than focus on faults, blame and accusations, students participating in Peer Mediation learn how to influence the course of conflict-that it can be settled peacefully, that it does not have to lead to violence, and that both parties to the dispute can “win.”

By participating in Peer Mediation, young people learn non-violent alternatives to dealing with conflict, equipping them with tools they need to respond to conflict in a positive way and to make good decisions in their own lives. Peer Mediation provides a pro-active alternative to reducing violence and disruption not only in our schools, but also in our communities. Young people who learn positive social behaviors today will be healthy and empowered adults tomorrow. To learn more about peer mediation, please email the Council.
