What are Treatment Agencies?
Treatment agencies are organizations that provide a variety of treatment options for the incoming client. In accordance with Federal regulation, pregnant women are afforded preference with regard to access to treatment services funded by the Council.
Identifying Your Situation
In order to begin treatment, you will need to be assessed and evaluated to determine the need for treatment and what level of treatment best addresses those needs. You may seek assessment and evaluation services through Berks County’s central intake unit: Treatment Access and Services Center (TASC), 19 N. Sixth St., Ste. 300, Reading, PA 19601, (610) 375-4426, or by contacting any of the outpatient providers listed below.
Treatment Options
Outpatient: Outpatient treatment of substance use disorders occurs from one to several hours per week and is appropriate for individuals who do not require a more intensive level of care.
Detoxification: Detoxification is for individuals whose withdrawal problems are severe enough to require 24-hour observation, monitoring and possible medication.
Residential: Residential treatment is for individuals who have not been successful in outpatient treatment or who as a result of an evaluation, are appropriate for a more intense, 24 hour/day treatment experience. Residential treatment centers are commonly referred to as half-way houses.
Transitional Housing: Transitional housing focuses on continuing sobriety through a group home/structured living arrangement.
Case Management: For many people entering treatment, case management services are provided to help resolve other problems that surround the addictive behavior. Case management services can assist with health care, psychiatric care, housing, support networks, education, vocational training, and employment.
EMERGENCY: If an emergency exists, you should go directly to a detoxification center, or call the drug and alcohol hotline at the Reading Hospital & Medical Center; 610-988-8186.

Notice to Individuals Receiving Substance Abuse Services: In accordance with Federal regulation, pregnant women are afforded preference with regard to access to treatment services funded by the Council. No provider of substance abuse services receiving Federal funds from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, including this organization, may discriminate against you on the basis of religion, a religious belief, a refusal to hold a religious belief, or a refusal to actively participate in a religious practice. If you object to the religious character of this organization, Federal law gives you the right to a referral to another provider of substance abuse services. The referral, and your receipt of alternative services, must occur within a reasonable period of time after you request them. The alternative provider must be accessible to you and have the capacity to provide substance abuse services. The services provided to you by the alternative provider must be of a value not less than the value of services you would have received from this organization.
