Council Addiction Resource Library
The Council offers addiction information through the Community Addiction Resource Library. Our holdings are listed online through the Reading Public Library website. In order to borrow materials from the library, you must have a Reading Public Library system card. You may reserve any of our materials online. You must pick up reserved items at the Council within five days after the reservation is made. Search the Reading Public Library website for listings and availability of addictions literature and videotapes. You can also reserve an item via e-mail.

Drug and Alcohol Update
The show is hosted and produced by Drew Eisenhauer. Drug & Alcohol Update airs the second Wednesday of every month from 6-6:30 pm. The show replays Sun. 9 pm, Mon. 8 am and the following Wed. 2 pm. 2007 Annual Conference and Awards
The 2007 Council on Chemical Abuse Conference was held November 1, 2007 at the Sheraton Reading Hotel. The conference theme was Crime and Addiction: Working with the Forensic Client.
The conference featured keynote speaker Delbert Boone.
This year's conference featured the Third Annual Council on Chemical Abuse Conference Awards. Congratulations to all of the 2007 award winners pictured with Council Executive Director George J. Vogel, Jr.
Treatment Professionals of the Year: The Drug and Alcohol Center at the Reading Hospital Center for Mental Health (standing left to right Nettie Sobjak and Mary Thomas, and second from right Linda Texter and seated at left Christine Katzaman).
Intervention Professional of the Year: Maria Santillan, Berks Counseling Center (seated at center).
Prevention Professional of the Year: Jan Warischalk, Andrew Maier Elementary School, Fleetwood School District (seated far right).

Informational displays from local drug and alcohol service providers were available for participants for the duration of the conference.
2008 Pat Ganter Scholarships
Congratulations to Chantel Walker, a graduate of Reading High School, and Lydia Wieder, a Fleetwood High School graduate. Chantel and Lydia were the recipients of the 2008 Pat Ganter Prevention and Recovery Fund Scholarships. The Council's Pat Ganter Memorial Scholarship is available to Berks County high school students who are involved in Council prevention programs including: Berks PRIDE, BUSTED!, Peer Mediation, or Earn & Learn. The student must be planning to pursue an education in one of the following areas: human services, behavioral health, social work, addiction studies, criminal justice, or psychology, and must explain in their biographical statement how they plan to use their education to work with the addicted population. The 2009 scholarship application will be available soon.
Chantel Walker, a 2008 graduate of Reading High School (pictured at left center), will be attending Clarion University in the fall to study psychology.
Lydia Wieder, a 2008 graduate of Fleetwood High School (pictured at left center), will be attending Thomas Jefferson University in the fall to study nursing.
