College Programs
The Alvernia College Addiction Studies degree was one of the first of its kind in the nation and over the years has been established as one of the most respected programs in the country. The major is dedicated to providing students with the theoretical and practical training necessary to meet the challenges of the professional roles in prevention and treatment settings. The course of study prepares the student for substance abuse counseling, as well as the many other specialty areas encompassed in the study of addiction.
The Alvernia College Behavioral Health Studies degree is one of the most versatile degrees found at the college or university level. It was established to provide a core of expertise for those individuals seeking administrative, counseling and casework positions in areas such as chemical dependency, mental illness, and child welfare. This unique yet expansive major is the outgrowth of community agencies needing to employ individuals with a broader base of expertise. This degree, with its different tracks of study, is designed to build the professional competence needed to address today's various and complex issues.
Programs offered include Bachelor of Arts Degree in Addiction Studies or Behavioral Health Studies, Minor in Addiction Studies, and Certificate Program in Addiction Studies. The program is designed to include course offerings in a convenient presentation that are attractive to the schedules of non-traditional students who prefer Saturday and evening classes as well as a schedule of daytime offerings.
