This course reviews the many situations and conditions that lead to relpase; relapse determinants, co-morbidity, myths, misconceptions and assumptions about relapse will be discussed.
The pharmacological fundamentals of drug abuse; includes basic brain chemistry, terms and concepts, routes of administration, physical effects and processes. The major categories of drugs will be reviewed and discussed.
This course will outline the connection between substance abuse and HIV disease. It will provide information about the fundamental principles unique to this dually impacted population. HIV transmission, development, symptoms and treatment options will be addressed. Risk Assessment, risk reduction and health promotion counseling strategies will be discussed. The course format will include lecture, discussion, and experiential exercises.
