Join us for a Lunch & Learn Program as COCA Prevention Specialist Teresa Detweiler discusses Vaping and JUULing. This hot topic has risen in popularity among health professionals as popularity among teens and young adults has increased. Come hear about this new trend and the reasons why professionals should be concerned.
Teen vaping and JUULing has reached “epidemic proportions,” according to The Food and Drug Administration (FDA). While there are many types of e-cigarettes, the most popular and therefore the most dangerous among them is JUUL, which has swept through middle schools and high schools, creating a new generation of smokers. Attendees will learn about the health risks of electronic cigarettes and how they perpetuate nicotine addiction rather than aid in quitting.
Teresa Detweiler, MA, organizes the tobacco dependence treatment program for the Council on Chemical Abuse. She is responsible for facilitating smoking cessation classes at multiple worksites, multi-unit housing facilities, and healthcare centers throughout Berks County. She also helps to strengthen tobacco and nicotine policies for local organizations and municipalities.
