Last fall, Haydenfilms Institute selected 50 youth to participate in an eight-week public service announcement (PSA) project entitled the Youth Media Initiative. The project looked at ways film can positively affect the lives of at-risk teems and their local communities. As part of this project, the selected students received professional film making training learning how to write, direct and film PSAs. Their skills were then put to the test as they created 20 PSAs for local nonprofit organizations. Of the twenty PSAs, five were filmed for the Council on Chemical Abuse (COCA). These PSAs are now complete and featured in an online film festival. Web viewers are able to watch each entry and vote for their favorite. A $10,000 scholarship will be distributed amongst the top three winning student groups.
COCA was fortunate that Youth Media Initiative students viewed drug and alcohol issues as some of the key issues facing teens today. Please take a moment and view the PSAs produced for COCA. Be sure to vote for your favorite entry and help keep drug and alcohol issues in the spotlight.
