This presentation will include the latest update on the Pennsylvania Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) and other prevention, intervention and surveillance efforts that are underway in the Department of Health.

To help prevent prescription drug abuse and protect the health and safety of our community, Pennsylvania’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) collects information on all filled prescriptions for controlled substances. This information helps health care providers safely prescribe controlled substances and helps patients get the treatment they need.

Meghna H. Patel, MHA is the Director of Prescription Drug Monitoring Program for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Before joining the Pennsylvania Department of Health, she worked for Geisinger Health System managing and leading the ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases – 10th Version) implementation for the entire health system. She earned her Master of Health Administration from University of Scranton. She is also trained in Lean and Six Sigma from Villanova University with strong background in program management, process improvement and strategic communications. She is also the Secretary of Prescription Monitoring Information Exchange (PMIX) National Architecture. In addition, Meghna and her team are the recipients of the Governor’s Awards for Excellence in 2016, for building the state’s PDMP from the ground up in less than five months.
