Substance abuse is a growing health problem among the aging and elderly populations. This training provides insight into how substance abuse impacts older adults. The abuse of alcohol and other drugs will be examined with a focus of the greater susceptibility to toxic effects in the elderly. Age-specific treatment issues, distinguishing between delirium and dementia, and best approaches in education will be discussed.
This training is specifically designed for staff from social service agencies and/or any professional who works with the elderly.
